Aurangabad, April

5:

The Jawaharnagar

police arrested two youths for using a sword to cut the birthday cake. The

arrested have been identified as Mahindra Ramesh Ahilye (20) and Omkar Vishnu

Chavan (23, both residents of Hanumannagar, Garkheda).

On April 1, the

20th birthday of Mahindra was celebrated by his friends by cutting cake on the

road. Later, Mahindra and Omkar went to the home at Hanumannagar, where they

cut the cake again with a sword. Omkar gave a bite of the cake to Mahindra. The

video of cutting the cake with a sword went viral on the social media. When the

police came to know about it, PI Santosh Patil immediately took action on

Monday and arrested both the youth and also seized the sword. Mahindra’s father

runs a tea kiosk while he helps his father in this business while Omkar is

unemployed, the police said.

Omkar has a

criminal background, and a case of molestation was registered against him in

2016 and of brutal attacks in 2017 and 2020, respectively. Presently he was on

bail, but Mahendra has no criminal record, the police said.

Possessing a sword

is a crime. Now, there is a new trend among the youngsters to cut the cake with

sword to create panic among the residents. The first such case of cutting a

cake with sword was registered in the city during the tenure of police

commissioner Amitesh Kumar around five years back. The birthday of a criminal

was celebrated by cutting a cake with sword at Mukundwadi area. Later, such

incidents were also reported from Begumpura and Waluj areas.
