26 Gas cylinders found at Police Station

A stockpile of 26 seized gas cylinders, stored for three years in the property room of Jinsi Police Station, was discovered during a recent cleanliness drive. Newly appointed PI Avinash Aghav unearthed the hazardous stash and immediately coordinated with district supply officials for its safe and legal disposal.

The revelation has sparked concerns about the safety of police personnel and residents in the surrounding densely populated neighbourhood. “This could have been a disaster waiting to happen,” said a senior official on condition of anonymity.

High-stakes clean-up drive

The discovery came as police stations across the district began implementing a seven-point program ordered by CM Devendra Fadnavis. The directive, issued a week ago, emphasized cleaning up old and unclaimed property, ensuring better facilities for complainants, and expediting pending cases within 100 days.

How was this neglected?

The cylinders, seized during an operation three years ago, had been left unnoticed despite their proximity to residential areas. “Shockingly, such a risk went unnoticed for so long,” said a resident. Inspector Aghav, who recently took charge, identified the issue during the clean-up and acted swiftly to neutralize the threat.

Revamping the Station

The clean-up drive has also transformed the station premises, which were previously cluttered with rusting vehicles and debris. The cleared space is now being repurposed for a volleyball court and an open gym. Additionally, motivational posters, including one that reads, “One stone can scar a life,” have been displayed to promote awareness among visitors and staff.
