30 tola gold stolen

Two artisans from West Bengal allegedly fled with 30 tolas (300 grams) of gold meant for jewellery-making. The city chowk police have registered a case in the matter.

The accused, identified as Amit Sawant and Biswajit alias Kaushik Rana (residents of Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal), worked under Sanjibkumar Paul, a trusted associate of jeweller Mahesh Tak from Pundliknagar. On May 24, 2024, Tak handed over 250 grams of gold to the duo for crafting an Arabic necklace and earrings. They also took 50 grams belonging to Sanjibkumar. While he was out of town, the workers allegedly fled, taking the entire lot. Tak filed a complaint after the gold went missing. Upon discovering the theft, Tak lodged a complaint at City Chowk Police Station. The accused later contacted him, promised to return the ornaments, and requested him to withdraw the case. However, they failed to keep their word and avoided further contact. PSI Nivrutti Gayke is investigating the case.
