Aurangabad, May 23:
Around 32,000 citizens from the city who have taken Covaxin may not get travel permission currently in many countries since the vaccine is not listed in World Health Organisation’s Emergency Use Listing (EUL).
It may be noted that the Central Government launched a vaccination campaign for frontline workers in the beginning and later for people aged 45 and above.
Covaxin was administered to frontline workers first and later to the general public. The supply of Covaxin was low for the district since the beginning. The district was supplied 5.50 lakh doses so far. Of them, 32,000 were from Covaxin.
Many restrictions were imposed on air journey on an international level because of COVID.
People travel abroad for business and visiting tourist places.
Many have a plant to travel to a foreign country once the pandemic spread reduces. Those who have taken Covaxin cannot are in agony. The reason is that many countries are issuing visas for those who have taken vaccines listed in EUL. They also have made submission of vaccination certificate. Covaxin is not included in the list. It is said that decision about the recognition of this vaccine would be taken by WHO organisation in June. On this, the Central Government said that the RT-PCR negative test report is the basis of the travel. The Central Government said that there is no consensus over vaccine passport in WHO members. The vaccination campaign began in the district in January. A total of 5.51 lakh people took first and second doses until May 22.
Of them,4.24 lakh were administered the first dose while 1.26 lakh the second dose.
Aurangabad Municipal Corporation Health officer Dr Neeta Padalkar said they had received no guideline about those who had taken Covaxin and could not travel abroad.
