34K properties linked through cellphones of owners under e-Governance

The distribution of demand notices of taxes through door-to-door visits will now be a thing of the past as the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), has vowed to serve it online, under its e-Governance project, from the new financial year. The initiative aim at bringing reforms in civic administration, rendering quality service through technology and enhancing tax collection figures. So far, the AMC has updated the mobile numbers of 34,941 property-holders and linked them

to their respective properties.

There are 2.5 lakh properties on AMC record. The AMC personnel would visit door to door and serve demand notices of various taxes. Many times, demand notices were left undistributed in the office. As a result, the property-holders claiming that they are unaware of the tax amount, would not pay their taxes. Reviewing the manual system, the AMC administrator A K Pandey proposed to replace it and implement e-Governance and GIS mapping projects as a part of the Smart Cities Mission. Pandey claimed that the revenue of the civic administration will increase after the completion of both the projects. The e-Governance project is expected to complete by December-end. The GIS mapping of properties is also underway on war-footing. Accordingly, the civic administration is hoping to implement the new services, from the financial year 2021-22.

The assessor and collector of tax, Aparna Thete has informed that the civic teams are linking each property with the mobile of its owner. The task is underway on war-footing. The cellphone numbers of 34,941 property owners have been updated, so far. The AMC had given targets to staff deployed on the task.
