The Pundliknagar police during the combing operation launched on Saturday night, arrested four criminals carrying a sword, knife, jambiya, rope and chili powder and intending to attack the son of a former corporator.

The arrested have been identified as Ajay Rajkumar Dhage (22, Sailaninagar, Hingoli Naka, Nanded), Hitendra Navnath Waghmare (24, Ramainagar, Harsul), Kiran Sudam Shinde (24, Galli No. 5, Gajanannagar, Garkheda area) and Akash Arjun Chate (20, Galli No. 4, New Hanumannagar, Garkheda area). However, one accomplice, Rahul alias Rana Bajirao Salunke (25, Ghati, Begumpura area), managed to flee away from the scene.

Criminal activities, including motorcycle thefts and housebreaking, have increased in the past few days. In this backdrop, the police have launched Nakabandi and increased patrolling. Still, API Ghansham Sonawane received the information that some criminals are intending to attack the son of a former corporator at Pundliknagar. Accordingly, they launched a combing operation in the Ganeshnagar area on Saturday night. The police team saw five persons standing near an open ground with two motorcycles. The police circled them from all the sides and arrested four of them. However, one managed to escape from the scene, taking advantage of the dark. All the four arrested were searched and sword, knife, jambiya, rope and chili power were seized from them. All the four criminals were in the inebriated condition. Many cases are registered against Ajay Dhage at Bhagyanagar Police station in Nanded and he was wanted in a chain-snatching case. He was staying in the city for the past one and a half months. Severe cases of attacking and thefts are registered against Rahul alias Rana. Akash Chate offered them liquor last night and planned to attack Vishal Gaike, son of a former corporator, the police came to know in the preliminary findings. Still, considering the articles seized from them, it is likely that they were planning to commit a robbery. A case has been registered in this regard at the Pundliknagar police station on the basis of the complaint lodged by constable Ravi Jadhav.

Meanwhile, two more criminals were arrested yesterday. Pundliknagar police arrested Manoj Baliram Jadhav (30) from Cidco, N-3 area on Saturday night. He was staying with one of his relatives. He was wanted in the case of threatening

and demanding a ransom of Rs 50 lakh from a BSNL employee of Jalna office, Sujata Narwade. He chased her car and stopped her at Seven Hills Flyover, and threatened her by breaking the car''s windowpanes. The police were after him since then.

Similarly, Pundliknagar police earlier arrested Shaikh Irfan Shaikh Lal in a shop breaking case. However, his accomplice Shaikh Bablu was at large and was arrested last night. API, Ghansham Sonawane, PSI Prabhakar Sonawane, Vikas Khatke, Raosaheb Mule, Meera Chavan, Ramesh Ingle, Balaram Chaure, Shivaji Gaikwad, Vilas Doiphode, Deepak Jadhav, Ravi Jadhav, Rajesh Yadmal, Pravin, Muley, Jalindar Mate and Ajay Kamble executed the police action.
