Aurangabad, Feb 10:

An accused befooled the policemen who were busy in changing the handcuffs and fled away by jumping from a police vehicle in front of the Mukundwadi police station on Wednesday at around 12.45 pm.

The accused has been identified as Amar Bhausaheb Gaikwad (Mukundwadi). He had beaten a senior citizen and snatched Rs 2,700 from his pocket near Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) School. A case was registered at the Mukundwadi police station on Tuesday night. Amar was arrested and was kept in the Cidco MIDC police station lockup on Tuesday night. On Wednesday, the police brought him to the Mukundwadi police station in a mobile van and the police made preparations to present him before the court of law. The police boarded him in the police van at around 12.40 pm. He complained to the police that the handcuffs are very tight. Hence, the police men were busy in changing his handcuffs. However, he pushed them and jumped from the vehicle and ran away. The police chased him but could not find him.

On receiving the information, the senior officers rushed to Mukundwadi police station and a procedure was on to register a case in this regard.

Amar is a drug addict and is a habitual whitener and liquor consumer. He used to create nuisance after in inebriated condition, the sources said.
