Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
Every day, a new crisis emerges in the city’s water supply. On Friday, at 2 pm, while proceeding from Bidkin to Paithan, the air valve on the 1200 mm diameter main water pipeline near the BPT Tank burst suddenly. This caused a large amount of water to leak out. Municipal Corporation officials and staff managed to complete the repair work by evening without shutting down the water supply.
The city’s water supply has been completely disrupted since last week. In addition, on Wednesday night, a 700 mm diameter water pipeline at the Pharola Pump House developed a leak. The repair work was completed by Thursday morning. While the work to restore the water supply to the city had been underway for the past 24 hours, the air valve on the 1200 mm diameter pipeline near the BPT Tank on Paithan Road burst on Friday afternoon. Upon hearing the news, civic officials were startled. Deputy engineer Kiran Dhande rushed to the site. Tests were conducted to check if repairs could be made without shutting off the water supply. Once the experiments proved successful, the repair work was completed.
One water pipeline shut for 7 days
A 900 mm diameter water pipeline, which provides 20 MLD of water to the city, has been shut down for seven days. During the installation of a 2500 mm diameter new water pipeline at Pharola Phata, the pipes of this pipeline were damaged. Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) has taken the stance that the damaged pipes cannot be replaced until the 2500 mm pipeline work is completed. However, MJP is not ready to complete the work of installing the 2500 mm pipeline on time. The water pipeline that supplies the city has been shut for seven days, causing a daily shortage of 20 MLD of water. Despite this, MJP is not ready to carry out the work.
