Aurangabad, June 30:

The health section of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) since the first wave of Coronavirus in the city has conducted 8.50 lakh RT-PCR and Rapid Antigen Test (RAT), to date. Through testing, 91,000 were detected as Covid-19 patients, 5.89 lakh persons were reported as negative and the reports of 2.66 lakh citizens are yet to be received. To sum up, the AMC had conducted tests of every second person in the city. Meanwhile, considering the possible third wave, the AMC as a preventive measure has purchased and stocked 2.5 lakh test kits in its store.

Of the total patients detected by the AMC, 86,989 were staying in localities within the jurisdiction of AMC, and 4,135 were residents of localities situated outside the AMC limits.

The city witnessed the spreading of Coronavirus since March 2020. Hence, in a span of one year (from March 15, 2020, to March 15, 2021), the civic health officials focussed on implementing a three-point programme (Tracing, Testing and Treatment of the infected persons). It has conducted 4.50 lakh Covid tests during the first wave, out of which, the ratio of antigen tests was high. In the second wave, the AMC increased the speed of testing. In the past four months, the AMC has conducted 3.5 lakh Covid tests. The civic chief geared up and deployed mobile teams in various parts of the city, at entry points, government offices, airport, railway station, etc to test and detect the patients. These patients after testing positive were immediately taken to the nearest Covid Care Centre (CCC) in ambulances and the timely decision helped in preventing the spreading of the infection in the city.
