AMC to bring lakhs of properties on record through GIS mapping; levy tax from 2022-23
Aurangabad, June 16:
If all goes well, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC), is hoping to bring lakhs of properties under the ambit of property tax, from the next financial year 2022-23. The properties which were not on AMC record, but were existing for many years, will automatically be captured in the drone survey under the ambitious GIS project to be launched by Aurangabad Smart City Development Corporation Limited (ASCDCL).
The municipal commissioner A K Pandey said, " A joint meeting was held between the officials of AMC, ASCDCL, and the GIS mapping agency during the last week. There are seven layers in the project which the agency has to complete through a drone survey. Of which, the first layer is the survey of existing properties. We have instructed the agency to complete the survey in nine months (by the end of the current financial year). After the drone survey, a database will be developed through the compilation of property documents through door-to-door visits by AMC personnel. Later on, the property tax, as well as water tax, will be levied upon them from the new financial year."
He added, " The survey is transparent and objective and will help AMC to generate revenue and encourage to undertake development works in the city. We are hoping that around 5 lakh properties (all types) may be brought on record. The drone survey and GIS mapping, the AMC will bring various types of properties and water connections (residential, commercial, semi-commercial, and industrial types) on record. Due to myriad reasons, the AMC is lagging behind in implementing the GIS project. The municipal corporations in Pune, Nasik, Nagpur, etc had already implemented it more than a decade ago."
It may be noted that there are around 2.25 lakh properties including 35,000 commercial properties on the AMC record.
