Aurangabad, June 16:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to affix water meters to commercial connections under the new water supply scheme (of Rs 1680 crore). The process of procuring meters and fixing them will be made through the Smart City fund. The task would be starting in two months, stressed the administrator, A K Pandey.

It may be noted that the waterworks had started in the city. The contractor has started construction of elevated storage reservoirs (ESR), master balancing reservoirs (MBR) at Nakshatrwadi, and the laying of internal distribution pipelines in various parts of the city. Earlier, Pune's Blue Stream agency has been shortlisted and it has been told to prepare the project implementation plan (PIP).

While speaking to media persons on Wednesday, the municipal commissioner said, " In the first phase, our focus is on fixing water meters on commercial connections, in two months. There are 25,000 commercial properties in the city as per the AMC record. The strength is hopeful to increase in the future. It is mandatory to fix the water meters as per the norms under the new water scheme. Many big cities in the state had already fixed the water meters. Hence the AMC will undertake a study on the pattern they had executed."

"The water tax in the city is huge. Hence, after fixing the meters, the citizens will be able to pay bills as per their consumption," said Pandey adding that the water meters to residential connections will be fixed in the second phase.
