Aurangabad, April 20:

The Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has decided to use briquettes instead of wood to perform the last rites upon patients dying of Covid-19 or normal diseases in the city. The civic administration assured of inviting the tender in this regard, soon.

It may be noted that wood is used in large number to perform the last rites. Three decades ago, the AMC had experimented by introducing an electric crematorium but proved unsuccessful. Hence all the 16 crematoriums as of today are using 100 pc wood only. Meanwhile, the city is witnessing a large number of deaths of Covid patients. Hence the large quantity of wood is being daily in the city.

Our environment is being pushed into danger as the trees are being razed down to meet the growing demand for woods. The city is reeling under pollution threat. Hence, the AMC administrator A K Pandey has decided to replace the wood with briquettes and save our environment.

" The briquettes are prepared from sugarcane and soybean waste. Hence the AMC will be inviting tender in this regard, soon," said the city engineer S D Panzade.
