The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) arrested an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) red-handed for taking a mobile phone amounting Rs 14,500 as bribe for taking action on the application given to stop construction on a plot. The action was executed at Mahaveer Chowk (Baba Petrol Pump) on Friday night. The name of the arrested ASI is Bhaskar Ramji Kharat (57).

According to the details, the complainant has started construction on a plot owned by him at Waluj area. He had lodged a complaint at the police commissionerate against the persons who had objected the construction and abused him. His application came to ASI Kharat while on duty at Waluj MIDC police station. He had taken the documents of the controversial plot from the applicant and the opponents. Meanwhile, Kharat was transferred to Mukundwadi police station. When the applicant came to know about it, he demanded the Xerox copies of the papers through which the opponents claimed the plot''s ownership. Then, Kharat demanded a mobile phone amounting Rs 14,000 to Rs 15,000 from the complainant to providing the papers. As the complainant did not wish to bribe him, he complained to the ACB.

Under the guidance of DCP, Dr Rahul Khade, additional superintendent of police Anita Jamadar, police team including PI Ganesh Dhokrat, Vijay Brahmande, Sunil Patil, Arun Ugale, Milind Ippar and Changdev Bagul verified the fact and then laid the trap. Accordingly, the complainant took a mobile phone to give it to Kharat at Mahaveer Chowk. The police team nabbed Kharat as soon as he took the phone.
