Two miscreants tried to molest a lady resident doctor going to the super-specialty block from the hostel at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) and tried to drag her in the bushes on Wednesday at midnight. However, the doctor started shouting for help and the both the criminals fled away from the scene, due to which a major mishap was averted. Still, the question of safety of women once again came to the fore. The incident occurred between the old ward no.5 between the resident doctors hostel and super-specialty block road.
A lady doctor was going on duty at super specialty block from the hostel on Wednesday night. Suddenly, two persons of around 25 years old blocked her way and threatened her with a knife. They tried to press her mouth and drag her in the nearby bushes. However, the doctor screamed for help. Both of them were afraid and fled away from the scene.
The doctor then ran to the block and informed the seniors about the incident. The security guards inspected the nearby area but could not find anyone. The lady doctor is terrified and has planned to go to her native village. The senior doctors, colleagues, head constable Nirmala Nimbhore and others tried to console her.
This road has bushes on both sides and there is no street lights here due to which there is always dark here. The road is busy during the day but deserted at night. Hence, the safety of women here is at stake.
Dean, Dr Kanan Yelikar said, the lady doctor complained that two persons threatened her with a knife. Hence, some decisions have been taken considering the safety here.
