The state cabinet on Wednesday sanction additional 165 beds and 360 new posts for the Government Cancer Hospital (GCH). Hence, there will be 265 beds available in the hospital now. The decision will facilitate the Cancer treatment, education and research.

Patients not only from the Marathwada region, but also from the other districts of the state come to Cancer Hospital for treatment. The expansion work of this hospital started in October, in which linux, braki Therapy bankers, OPD, minor OT will be on the ground floor, 42 beds ward at first floor, two wards on the second floor have been planned. The construction will be completed in the next 15 months. The hospital will get 165 additional beds now and 360 posts have also been sanctioned. Presently, there is 359 staff in the hospital. The laser department will also be established in the expansion process due to which the patients will get high quality laser treatment. The hospital will also receive new MRI, CT Scan and other equipment. The Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Dean Dr Kanan Yelikar and chief executive officer of GCH Dr Arvind Gaikwad have taken efforts for pursuing the issue of expansion.

The director of Tata Memorial Hospital (Educational) Dr Kailash Sharma said, the expansion work is under progress and it includes additional 165 beds. This is an important decision which will benefit in the treatment of the patients and the education and research for the students, he said.

Meanwhile, 78 patients including 67 from the city and 11 from the rural areas recovered and were given discharge on Wednesday. The total number of patients given discharge in the district so far is 44342 while 478 are being treated.
