The city experienced a cloud burst like situation on Friday evening as 21.3 mm rainfall was recorded in just 8 minutes. However, half the city experienced moderate rains, areas including Hudco, Cidco and old city had heavy showers from 8.32 pm to 8.40 pm.

Rains started in the city at around 7 pm. There was light rainfall in Chikalthana, Cidco, Hudco and Akashwani area. The MGM observatory recorded 1 mm rain till 8 pm. However, Railway Station, Padampura, Nandanvan Colony, Osmanpura, Chawni, Bhavsinghpura, Begumpura, Mill Corner, Beed Bypass and Garkheda area received massive rainfall. Cidco-Hudco and Mondha naka also received heavy showers after 8.30 pm. The rains caused flooding on most of the city roads. Motorists had a tough time making their way through the waterlogged roads. Even the visibility had decreased. Many motorists stopped under the Mondhanaka flyover causing a traffic jam. The Chikalthana observatory recorded 3 mm rainfall till 8.30 pm. The MGM observatory recorded 25.4 mm rainfall till 9.20 pm. It rained moderately, sometimes lightly till late at night.

111.1 mm rainfall per hour

It had been raining in the city since Friday evening. Between 8.32 pm and 8.40 pm, the city was hit by 111.1 mm rainfall per hour. It rained faster than a cloudburst. A total of 21.3 mm rainfall was recorded by MGM observatory., said Srinivasa Aundhkar, Meteorologist.
