Aurangabad, May 15:

Family members of the registered construction workers will get Rs 2 lakh compensation from Maharashtra Construction Worker's Welfare Board if he/she dies of COVID while Rs 5 lakh aid would be given if one dies in an accident.

Bandhkarm Kamgar Sanghatna Samyukta Kriti Samiti took to follow up on the issue.

The union's main demand was that those whose identity card was not renewed from April 1, 2020 but died should be given all benefits to their family members. The Board accepted the demand. The family members would Rs 2 lakh if registered labour dies of COVID between April 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021, and Rs 5 lakh compensation if he/she dies in an accident. Also, if a worker had natural death, his/her family members will get Rs 2 lakh compensation. State unit vice-president of Building Construction Workers Federation Madhukar Khillare demanded that providing compensation should be expedited.
