A contractual worker at the Deogiri Covid Care Centre committed suicide by hanging himself, on Thursday morning.

“I am committing suicide, I am sorry. Give my salary to my brother,” the 30-year-old youth identified as Ranjeet Digambar Pagare from Gulabwadi, wrote in the suicide note.

Police said Ranjeet had been working at the centre established by the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) for the past few months. He was staying there with other employees. On Thursday morning, the employees noticed him hanging with a bedsheet from a ceiling fan.

He was immediately rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) by his brothers Vishal Pagare and Vijay Janardan Pagare.

The police on receiving the information attended the scene, while a case of accidental death was registered by the Vedantnagar police.

The police received a suicide note written on a polythene bag. “Bhombe Sahib will pay my salary after a month, which should be given to my brother,” Ranjeet wrote, adding that no one should be held responsible for his suicide.

Meanwhile, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen activist Arun Borde alleged that the AMC officers had not paid his bills due to which he committed suicide. The body of the victim was handed over to his relatives after post-mortem in the evening.
