Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
Even though half of March has passed, there has been no action from the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) regarding the full-scale operation of the 900 mm diameter water pipeline. In this context, the municipal corporation administration has requested that a plan be made to start the water pipeline at full capacity. Besides, there is a delay in the construction of the 26 MLD capacity water purification plant at Pharola, which is further exacerbating the issue. As a result, millions of citizens in the city will have to endure water scarcity during the summer.
Even today, some colonies in the city receive water every five days, while others receive it on the 12th day. Until the completion of the Rs 2,740 crore new water supply scheme, a 900 mm diameter water pipeline was urgently laid for Rs 200 crore to provide relief to the city. It was expected that this pipeline would supply an additional 75 MLD of water to the city. The MJP had announced that the city would receive this additional water by March 31. However, the deadline has now been extended to April 30. The municipal corporation has demanded that the work on the water treatment plant be completed immediately and that a plan be put in place to operate the pipeline at full capacity.
What needs to be done?
To bring 75 MLD of water daily through the 900 mm water pipeline, a minimum of three 425 HP pumps need to be installed at the Jayakwadi lift centre. Besides, the water treatment plant at Pharola must be started. If these two actions are completed, the city will receive an increased water supply.
Water every 2-3 days
If the city receives an increased water supply, the gap in water distribution will be reduced. Accordingly, it will be possible to provide water to the city at least every two to three days, said the municipal corporation’s executive engineer, K M Phalak.
