Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:

The Siddharth Garden Zoo has a large number of tigers. The Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) is set to acquire lions, bears, and a pair of jackals in exchange for three tigers. The Shivamogga Zoo in Karnataka will receive three different species of animals in exchange for the tigers.

The local zoo houses over 250 animals. It attracts many tourists every year, with tigers being its main attraction. The breeding rate here is also the highest compared to other zoos. However, the absence of lions at the zoo causes disappointment among children. The zoo currently has 7 yellow-striped tigers and 5 white-striped tigers. The Shivamogga Zoo has contacted the CSMC Zoo, requesting three tigers in exchange for lions, bears, and a pair of jackals.

Approval needed for exchange

The municipal administration has submitted a proposal to the Central Zoo Authority (CZA) for approval to exchange animals. However, the proposal has not yet been sent by the Shivamogga Zoo. Once they send their proposal, the exchange of animals will take place after receiving approval from the CZA, said Deputy Commissioner Vijay Patil.
