Cyber fraudsters demand money from fake facebook account of crime branch officer
Aurangabad, May 19:
The cyber fraudsters created fake facebook accounts
of two crime branch officers recently. They asked for money to a friend of one
of these officers from the fake account. However, the officer when learnt about
it posted a post on his account and appealed the people that the account is
fake and should not respond to it.
Crores of Indians are presently using the facebook
on the social media. Crime branch PI Avinash Aghav is also active on facebook
and his friend list is huge. The cyber criminals taking advantage of it created
his fake facebook account using his pictures. Friend requests were sent from
this fake account to his friends and many had accepted it. A few days back,
they started demanding money to these friends and asked them to pay money
through phone pay or online. Aghav when came to know about it posted on his
original account and appeal not to respond to such requests.
A similar fake account of API of crime branch Amol
Satodkar was also created in April. He came to know about it through some of
his friends and reported to facebook that the account was fake. The facebook
then closed that facebook account, the sources said.
Cyber police station PI Geeta Bagwade said that if
noticed that their facebook fake account has been created, the people should
immediately report about it. Similarly, they should lock their profile so that
the data is not misused. Two levels verification should be activated to keep
the profile safe, she said.
