Aurangabad, July 8:

The pension of 166 pensioners in the city has been delayed as new IFSC codes of merged banks have not been sent to the treasury department. Senior citizens have been harassed as their pension has not been deposited in the bank.

Allahabad bank has been merged with Indian bank while Syndicate bank has been merged with Canara bank. Around 72 pensioners have pension accounts in Allahabad bank and 94 pensioners in Syndicate bank. After the merger, the bank manager was required to inform the treasury department about the merger and the changed IFSC codes. However, the bank management did not send the information on time, causing confusion. As the treasury department did not get the information, they sent the demand drafts to banks as per the old IFSC code. However, due to the change of IFSC code, half of the DD were returned to the treasury. However, the pensions of pensioners were delayed. Pension is the only source of livelihood for many pensioners. Many pensioners get a pension of between Rs 5,000 and Rs 10,000, which is enough to cover their monthly expenses. The senior citizen has been taking follow-up with the bank since July 1. However, neither the bank employees nor the treasury department has taken any note. Pensioner Shantilal Surekha expressed his indignation that the senior citizens are being hit by the lack of coordination between the two departments.

Elderly troubled due to negligence

Managers of both the banks were required to send their new IFSC code numbers to the treasury for the pensioners of the merged bank to get their pensions without any delay. However, now we will have to send the codes to the treasury department in Mumbai. Only then the pension will be released, said Sachin Annapurne, deputy treasury officer.
