DLR seeks report on bogus land demarcation and registry cases in Phulambri

Following a revelation by the ‘Daily Lokmat’ newspaper about the preparation of fake land demarcation documents and the registration of hundreds of bogus documents at the local registry office in Phulambri over the past two years, the Department of Land Records (DLR) has sought a report from the concerned office.

The state government sustained a loss of revenue to the tune of crores of rupees due to this bogus work. This news was published by the newspaper on October 4. In response, district superintendent (DLR) Vijay Veer ordered an investigation into the matter.

Accordingly, an inquiry has commenced, and letters have been sent to the deputy superintendent (DLR) and the sub-registrar of the registry office in Phulambri, ordering to submit an explanation and comprehensive report.

What was the case?

After the implementation of the Fragmentation Prohibition Act, registrations for plots smaller than 20 gunthas became prohibited, prompting some individuals to devise schemes to forge maps and seals from the DLR. They then created fake land demarcation documents and registered documents based on these forgeries. This fraudulent activity has been ongoing at the Phulambri registry office for the past two years, causing significant financial losses to the government.
