Aurangabad, Feb 6:

Ayurveda and allopathy are two different branches. The medicine and treatment of both are different. Therefore, the two branches should not be merged. The situation is that if Ayurveda surgery is going to take place, it takes a doctor of allopathy to give anesthesia. Hence the government should not seek the help of allopathy doctors while preparing Ayurvedic doctors, said the national president of the Association of Surgeons of India (ASI), Dr Abhay Dalvi said.

The 43rd two day annual conference of the Maharashtra state chapter of the ASI, held at MGM medical college and hospital, began on Saturday. Dr Dalvi said surgeries have begun as before corona. The patient now have to undergo corona test before surgery. Just like other tests have to be done before the surgery, now there will be a permanent corona test. Changes are also being made in operation theaters. Instead of air-conditioned OT, the air has to be vented, he said.

Scope for robotic surgery

There is scope for robotic surgery in India, but not every surgery is possible through it. It is definitely beneficial for some surgeries. Many cancer surgeries have been shown to improve. If the surgeon is making a mistake, the robot will not make a mistake, which is a great advantage, said Dr Dalvi said. There is scope for medical tourism in India, but only in cities where they have direct international flights, medical tourism can flourish, he said.

Live performances of surgeries across the country

Live demonstrations of the surgeries from MGM's operation theater were shown online across India. Nine laparoscopic and six open surgeries were performed on Saturday. The conference was inaugurated by MGM vice president Dr P M Jadhav on Saturday evening. Dr Abhay Dalvi, MGM trustee Ankushrao Kadam, Dr Rajendra Bora, deputy dean Dr Praveen Suryavanshi, Dr Rajendra Shinde and Dr Satish Dharap were present.
