Aurangabad, July 5:

A drunkard strangulated his wife to death as she refused to pay him Rs 40 for buying liquor at Balanagar in Paithan tehsil. The incident occurred on June 28 and conducted the last rites on her next day pretending that she died due to illness and also convinced his relatives. The deceased has been identified as Meenabai Kailas Dhokale (35) and her husband as Kailas Dattu Dhokale (39).

His son told about this incident to the his maternal grandmother. She lodged a complaint against her son-in-law Kailas Dhokale.

Police said, Kailas on June 28 at around 7 pm, demanded Rs 40 to his wife Meenabai to buy liquor, but she refused. He abused, beat and later strangulated her. He then threatened his both the children not to tell anything about it to anyone. The last rites were performed on her on June 29.

On July 3, both the children went to their grandparents at Vihamandva and told about the incident to the grandparents. Meena’s mother Indubai Dhondiram Gunjal (55, Vihamandva) lodged a complaint at the Paithan MIDC police station. API Archana Patil is further investigating the case.
