Aurangabad, Jan 27:

Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University will hold elections for the two posts of members of Management Council (MC) on February 12.

Members are elected on MC from different authorities and boards. The two posts fell vacant recently. Two Academic Council (AC) members will be elected on MC as per section 30 (4) (I) of Maharashtra Public Universities Act 2016.

The election schedule was announced. The aspirants can submit nomination papers up to January 30. The scrutiny of nomination papers will be carried out on February 1.

The election will be held in the AC meeting of February 12.

Election returning officer and registrar Dr Jaishree Suryavanshi said that the counting would be done between 12 pm to 2 pm on February 12.

Generally, one male and one female member is elected on MC from AC out of eight members. However, there is speculation that nomination members can also contest the election.

The MC has a total of 22 members posts. A total of eight are elected from Sena while two from AC while the chancellor and vice-chancellor nominate the remaining ten. The VC and registrar are ex-officio members of the MC.

The election is a prestige issue for Utkarsh and Vidyapith Vikas Manch (VVM) panels. Dr Rajesh Karpe from Utkarsh Panel and Kishor Shitole from VVM claimed that their candidates would win both members' post.
