The proposal of construction of garbage processing plant of 150 metric tones (MT) capacity at Harsul by Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) seems to have fallen victim to red-tapism, for the past six months. The civic body requires one and a half acres of land from the revenue department to complete the installation and commissioning of the project. A few days ago, the divisional commissioner Sunil Kendrekar had ordered to provide the land, but the AMC is yet to get the possession and start the operations.
It so happened that some private persons claimed their ownership on the AMC's selected site. As a result, the civic body got the measurement of land through tehsil land record office. Following the dispute, the project is lying incomplete. The AMC requires one and a half acres of more land to install and start the project. Hence it had contacted the revenue department for the government land, situated adjacent to the existing site.
Kendrekar held a meeting to review the status of garbage processing plants in the city. When inquired about the delay in starting the Harsul plant, the AMC's city engineer S D Panzade apprised him about the delay. As a result, the divisional commissioner ordered the district administration to provide the required land to AMC, on priority. The civic body is still waiting for the possession of the land.
Meanwhile, the civil contractor of Harsul plant is facing financial inconvenience as he is paying wages to his labourers without any work for the past six months. He has been thinking of leaving the project in the middle, said the sources.
