Girder installed on the flyover of Samruddhi expressway

Aurangabad, May 23:

Work on the railway flyover at Lasur station on the Samruddhi expressway is in progress and in the last two days, four large girders weighing 130 metric tonnes have been installed at the site. A three-hour railway block was undertaken for the work.

Work on the Samruddhi expressway has come to a halt for the last one and a half months due to the lockdown. However, the contractor L&T has hired two cranes with a lifting capacity of 500 and 750 metric tonnes to install large girders on the railway flyover near Lasur station. A girder weighs 130 metric tonnes and is 45 meters long. A total of 8 such girders will be installed on the railway flyover here. Lifting a giant girder and installing it on a bridge is a risky business. The large cranes required for this are generally found in cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad. Due to insufficient technical manpower for the work of railway flyover, the contractor has brought in such skilled manpower along with cranes from outside the district. However, the time to install the girder was fixed according to the availability of the crane. On Friday and Saturday, 4 girders were installed. A three-hour railway block was undertaken for the work. Superintendent engineer of MSRDC, B P Salunke, L&T's project officer R Srinivasan as well as officials of South-Central Railway from Nanded and Secunderabad were present.
