A female resident doctor in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) was threatened by two mobsters who tried to drag her off the road and into the nearby bushes. After this incident, the doctor has gone on a quarantine leave, informed GMCH dean Dr Kanan Yelikar here on Saturday.

Doctors treating corona patients are given quarantine leave. According to the schedule, September 30 was the last day of duty of the resident doctor to work. According to the GMCH administration, the doctor is on a 7-day quarantine leave. Dr Yelikar interacted with the doctor on Saturday evening.

The shocking incident took place on September 30 at around midnight when the female resident doctor, who was on her way to the super-speciality block from the hostel was threatened by two suspects who tried to take her to the side of the road at knifepoint. The female doctor shouted for help causing the suspects to run away. The doctor was in shock and insisted on going back to the village.

The suspects in the case are still at large. Doctors in the GMCH are looking into whether the suspects will be arrested after the case is registered.
