Goodyear starts restoration of Shenpunji lake

Aurangabad, March 27:

Goodyear South Asia Tyres Private Limited, as part of its CSR initiative, is supporting the community-based scientific restoration of Shenpunji lake in Aurangabad through the community based scientific lake restoration project. The aim of the project is to adopt, scientifically revive and ecologically restore the lake.

The project is being implemented by the Environmentalist Foundation of India (EFI) in partnership with Goodyear to contribute towards environment protection, water conservation and enhancing biodiversity in and around Shenpunji lake spread across 19.59 acres. Through the project, 130 tons of waste was cleaned from the lake area, deepening of the water body enhanced water holding capacity of the lake by additional 1.8 lakh cubic meters. The silt removed from the lake was used for construction of earthen bunds around the water body. G-shaped islands and mini islands were constructed for birds, frogs, snakes and other organisms to thrive which will help in protecting and enhancing biological diversity of the lake. Over 400 trees were planted with drip irrigation system to ensure their survival. Chairman and MD, Goodyear India Sandeep Mahajan said “Goodyear's ongoing commitment to safety, wellness, and environmental protection are key drivers for our sustainability efforts. We are delighted to support the restoration of Shenpunji lake with the objective of protecting the environment and enhancing biodiversity in the area.
