Health officials gear up to implement Phase II of COVID vaccination programme

Aurangabad, Feb 1:

The district health administration has geared up for implementing the second phase of COVID vaccine programme in the district.

Accordingly, the administration has already started the distribution of 36,000 doses to the rural and urban sectors.

Earlier, the administration had implemented the first phase from Jan 16 and gave the vaccine to health care workers (doctors and paramedical staff). The drive is underway.

Meanwhile, the health department has received a letter guiding the government's implementation of the second phase. Accordingly, the second phase will administer the vaccine to frontline workers, including officials and staff from revenue, district administration, municipal corporation, police administration etc.

Two dosages - Covishield and Covaxin (on a gap) - are being administered by health officials during the programme. The district had received stock of 34,000 doses in the first phase.

The deputy director (health) Dr Swapnil Lade said, " We have received a stock of 63,640 doses of COVID vaccine for Aurangabad, Jalna, Hingoli and Parbhani districts. It includes a stock of 36,000 doses of Aurangabad district.

The municipal officer of health (MoH) Dr Neeta Padalkar said that the civic body had received stock of 15,000 doses for the frontline workers.

The civil surgeon Dr S V Kulkarni adds that the number of vaccination centres will be increased in the second phase. The doses will be given at the district civil hospital.
