After thirteen days of rest, heavy rains lashed the city on Friday afternoon. The rains continued for nearly three hours. The thunderous noise made the townspeople tremble. Several low-lying areas in the city experienced waterlogging.

A low pressure area has formed in the northern Andamans and the Bay of Bengal. The meteorological department had forecast torrential rains with thunderstorms across the state. The city has cloudy sky on Friday morning with increased humidity. In the afternoon the atmosphere suddenly changed. At 3 pm, the city witnessed loud thunder with heavy rains. The rain was pouring down heavily for half an hour. Occasionally there was loud thunder noise. The loud lightening noise shook the city. Firefighters also had calls asking them about the situation. The rain stopped after 5 pm. Two and a half hours of rain had soaked the low-lying areas of the city. A tree in Nirala Bazar area was uprooted while a pond was created in the municipal parking lot. Currently, work on Diwandevadi road is underway. Here the motorists had to struggle finding the way. The road next to the Ambassador Hotel was knee-deep in water. A similar situation happened on the road from Chistiya Colony to MGM road. This road is currently under construction. The last showers of heavy rains were recorded on the night of September 25.
