Aurangabad, June 6:

Heavy rain lashed the city on Sunday evening with lightening and strong winds for around 15 minutes continuously. Later, mild showers hit various parts of the city. Water lodged in the houses in Jaubhaninagar, Pundliknagar, Gajanan Colony, Shahgunj, Champa Chowk and others places. The residents had to take strenuous efforts to drain the water. The MGM meteorological observatory has recorded 41.9 mm rainfall till 5.30 pm, 33.2 mm in the evening and total of 50.0 mm at 8.30 pm.

The rain started at around 2.30 pm and heavy rain was recorded at Chikalthana and other places. 16.8 mm rainfall was recorded at the Chikalthana observatory till 5.30 pm. In the evening, water was lodged at various places till knee high. The water entered in the low-lying areas in the city and water entered in the houses at Pundliknagar, Jaibhavaninagar, Gajajnan Colony and other areas. The fire brigade jawans rushed to help the people. The residents alleged that the water is accumulated as the nullaha cleaning work has been ignored.

Meanwhile electricity was interrupted at various places including Town Hall, Bhadkal Gate, Nandan Van Colony, Madni Colony, Altamash Colony, Bari Colony, Motiwalanagar, Maheshnagar, Baijipura, Shahnoormiya Dargah area, Ghati area and other parts of the city.

Meteorologist Shrinivas Aundhkar said that the rain which lashed the city on Sunday was the pre-monsoon rain. The monsoon has covered the Ausa, Solapur, Satara, Ratnagiri area and it will arrive here till Tuesday morning.
