Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar

Posing as police officers, fraudsters tricked a 60-year-old woman, Lata Dilipkumar Jain, into handing over 40 grams of gold jewellery by warning her about rising thefts in the city. The incident took place on Thursday at 11 am near Shahanoor Miya Dargah Road.

Dilipkumar Jain and his wife were shopping for vegetables when an unknown man approached them near Sigma Hospital. Claiming to be a police officer, he said his senior wanted to speak with them. The couple followed him to another individual, who, in an authoritative tone, warned them about increasing thefts and advised them to remove their gold jewellery for safety. Lata Jain removed her ornaments and handed them to her husband, but the imposter cop took the jewellery, pretended to place it in a bag, and returned it to them.

When Dilipkumar Jain checked the bag, he realized the jewellery was missing. Before he could react, the fraudsters sped away on a two-wheeler. A complaint was filed at Jawaharnagar Police Station, and Sub-Inspector Prashant Mundhe is investigating the case.
