Insufficient supply of Covaxin disappoints citizens
Aurangabad, June 22
Insufficient supply of Covaxin compared to Covishield has left people in the distict disappointed.
The vaccination drive, which began in January, has seen 6.71 lakh people getting vaccinated. They include 5.28 lakh recipients of first dose and 1.42 lakh of second dose.
There is a great demand for Covaxin. Citizens, who were lucky to get the first dose of Covaxin are now impatiently waiting for the second dose. The AMC has stopped giving the second dose as there is a severe shortage of this vaccine.
According to nodal officer (vaccination) Dr Mahesh Ladda, citizens should take whichever vaccine is available on priority. Both the vaccines are 70-80 percent effective, so people should not insist on one specific vaccine, he advised.
It may be noted that Covishield vaccine is supplied on a large scale in the district. Till today, more than 7 lakh doses of this vaccine have been administered. Of which, 6.32 lakh are first and second doses of Covishield, while 59,850 doses of Covaxin were given in the past six months.
