Aurangabad, July 12:

The Inter-Caste Marriage Act Day was celebrated with all appropriate measures at Cannaught Place in Cidco today. The programme was hosted jointly by Bahujan Samajik Sanskrutik Manch, Baba Dalvi Vichar Manch, Non-political OBC, SC, ST Social Front, and Prabudha Yuva Parivartan Manch. S M Thore presided over the function.

Satyashodhak Movement's leader K E Hardas, a researcher who had done Ph.D. on Inter-Caste Marriage Prof (Dr) Arti Dhanve, Com. Buddhinath Baral, Ratankumar Pandagale, principal G H Rathod and Eknath Tribhuvan spoke on the occasion. The dignitaries also felicitated inter-caste couples on the occasion.

The speakers demanded releasing of grants to inter-caste and inter-religion couples, relaxation in the conditions of granting Rs 2.5 lakh aid by the union Government, provide facility under housing scheme, ration card, and gift household items to the beneficiaries from the Department of Social Justice, preference in jobs, etc. The organisers also decided to submit the memorandum of demand to the divisional commissioner. They will also forward it to the union and the State Ministry of Social Justice. Jaishree Shirke proposed a vote of thanks.
