Leopard killed on Samruddhi Highway

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A leopard was killed when it was hit by an unknown vehicle at Jaipur Shivara near Shendra MIDC Junction in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar tehsil in the early hours of Sunday. The wild cat was aged 7 to 8 years.

Bhagure, a member of the Highway Security Guard Team who was on patrol found the male leopard dead on Sunday morning. He informed Ashok Sable, the forest guard of the forest department.

Forest Guard Sable immediately rushed to the spot and shared its information with Assistant Conservator of Forests Asha Chavan and Forest Range Officer Sagar Kute. All the officers also arrived at the spot. A panchnama was held. The traffic police were also present at that time. The dead leopard was taken to the forest department nursery at Kumbhphal Shivara in a Government vehicle.

Medical Officer Dr Gajanan Chavan, Dr Prafulla Ghodke, Bhagwan Mule and others performed the autopsy of the dead leopard. The dead leopard was burnt as per the norms.

The land for Samruddhi Highway was acquired through the mountainous area of Jaipur Shivara at Sambhajinagar tehsil. Many wild animals wander in this area.

A few months ago, a video of a tipper driver finding a leopard in this area went viral. There is talk that the same leopard may have died in this accident. The accidental death of the leopard has caused outrage among animal lovers.
