Lover forced to abort twin foetus; attempted to kill through poison

A 24-year-old victim got pregnant by establishing physical relations with a distant relative. However, when the accused learnt that his lover would be giving birth to twins, he then forced her to abort the foetus. Later on, he also refused to marry her and would beat, abuse and torture her frequently. Acting upon the complaint of the victim, the Jawaharnagar police have registered an offence against Shrikant Tejrao Lahane (Bhanudasnagar).

The victim stated that she was introduced to Shrikant through social media in February 2023. Later on, they befriended and also fell in love with each other. However, the accused developed physical relations with her and later refused to marry her. Hence she lodged a complaint of rape and physical torture against the accused at Cantonment police station in April 2024. In August 2024, Shrikant assured the victim of marrying her and made her to withdraw the rape complaint. On November 10, he even staged a fake wedding at a temple. Later on, the couple developed physical relations, and the victim got pregnant.

Abortion and poisoning

The victim, after getting pregnant, insisted on living in the house of Shrikant, but his family refused to accept her. Instead, they made her consume pills and also took her to a hospital near Doodh Diary signal (near Kranti Chowk) and get abort the foetus in two sittings. When the victim went to the house of the accused to question about the abortion on March 1. The victim alleged that they threatened her with dire consequences and poisoned her. She then received treatment from the hospital, and after getting discharged, she complained to the police station on Friday. Hence, the complaint of attempting to kill and abort the foetus has been registered again.
