Many colleges fail to collect degrees from Bamu

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Many colleges under the jurisdiction of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) failed to collect their students' degrees after the convocation ceremony.

The university awards degrees to all those students who passed the examinations during the last academic year. Only selected Ph D holders receive the degree from the dignitaries while colleges have to organise the convocation ceremony to present the degrees to the students after collecting them from the Examinations Department.

This year’s convocation ceremony (65th) was hosted for the students who passed the examination in October-November 2023 and March-April 2024 on February 22, 2025.

As per the norms, the colleges should collect the degrees within one month from the date of the ceremony. However, 176 colleges have not collected the degrees of the Examinations Department since February 22. This has shocked the university as the students need the degrees for jobs and further education.

Clarification sought

Director of Board of Examination and Evaluation Dr Bharati Gawli sent a letter to the colleges dated April 17 seeking clarification from them as to why the degrees were not collected yet nor convocation ceremonies were organised. The colleges will have to send the report of the convocation ceremony if held or give written clarification up to April 29.
