Aurangabad, Jan 20:

MLC Satish Chavan demanded that those interns who worked in Government Medical College and Hospital during COVID outbreak should be given ‘COVID allowance’ to encourage them.

In a memorandum submitted to Medial Education Minister Amit Deshmukh on Wednesday, Satish Chavan stated that interns played an important role by serving COVID and putting their life at risk.

“Sometimes, they had to do double duty. Despite this, they get Rs 11,000 stipend which is very meagre. Interns working in the hospital of Municipal Corporation Greater Mumbai get Rs 50,000 monthly including Rs 39, 000 as COVID allowance while in Pune, the intern doctors get Rs 30,000 including Rs 19,000 as COVID allowance,” he said.

The GMCH has submitted a proposal to increase their stipend. The COVID allowance should be given from June 1, 2020, to the doctors.
