Aurangabad, July 20:

Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) started laying High-Density Polyethylene (HDP) pipes at Satara area to put a check on water theft.

Only trained staff of Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will be able to give a tap connection.

The MJP is laying water pipelines of various sizes, including 110 MM to 220 mm, depending upon the requirement of each area’s requirement. The special technology is being used to lay the pipeline.

Size of main pipes and general pipes can be used as per the requirement.

The pipes were manufactured with HDP. These pipes shrink when there is no water supply while get expanded during water supply.

MJP officers said that the water pipeline would not get damaged from rust and moss. Galvanized Iron (GI) pipes were used in different areas of the city until recently.

The process of laying GI pipes take time while the new HDP pipeline can be laid in a short time. Citizens had doubt over the life of plastic pipeline compared to GI.

Sunil Naikwade, the project engineer, said that such HDP pipes were laid for water supply at Udgir, Chandrapur and Pune.

The project was declared as the best one in the state.

On the line of these cities, the HDP pipes project is being implemented at Satara Deolai.

“The life of the pipe is 100 years. Special technology is used to lay HDP pipe,” he added.
