Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar:
To process medical waste in a scientific manner, the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Municipal Corporation (CSMC) has appointed a biotech company from Goa. However, this company has not received the necessary No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the regional office of the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB). Hence, the municipal administrator G Sreekanth presented the corporation's case before Siddhesh Kadam, MPCB Chairman, in Mumbai on Tuesday.
For the past 20 years, the medical waste has been processed by the CSMC-appointed Watergrace company. After the contract ended, the corporation awarded the work to a biotech company from Goa. The project for processing medical waste in the Gevrai area was taken over by the CSMC and is being operated by the Goa company. However, the MPCB raised objections and sent a letter in the name of the administrator, suggesting that the project should be handed back to the Watergrace company.
In response to this letter, the municipal administrator requested the MPCB Chairman to listen to the corporation's side of the matter. Accordingly, the corporation was allowed to present its case on Tuesday (March 11). For this purpose, the administrator and the Medical Health Officer (MoH) Dr Paras Mandalecha were called to present the corporation's stance.
A hearing was held at the MPCB’s office in Mumbai, in front of Chairman Siddhesh Kadam. During this session, the CSMC administrator presented the corporation's stance in detail. He explained the working methods of the Watergrace company and clarified them in front of Kadam. Besides, he highlighted how the biotech company's project is being run with state-of-the-art methods, and this was also made clear through a presentation.
