Aurangabad, Oct 20:

Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has informed of removing more than 4,000 illegal power supply connections taken with the help of hooks, from the three circles of the Aurangabad Zone.

The MSEDCL team removed 1,089 connections from Aurangabad Circle, 1,940 from Latur Circle and 1,067 from Nanded Circle. Hence, MSEDCL removed 4,096 illegal power-connections in the past few days.

It may be noted that the transformers are getting defunct frequently due to an increase in load beyond the permissible capacity. It happens due to power theft through hooks. MSEDCL replaces the defunct transformers, but till then the consumers and the farmers using agri-pumps are forced to stay without power. Moreover, the MSEDCL is getting burdened as it has to spend money on repairing defunct transformers, transportation of transformers, apart from revenue loss due to illegal connections. Hence taking cognizance of this, the joint managing director (JMD, Aurangabad Zone) Naresh Gite had ordered to curb power-theft by removing these through hooks from the Aurangabad, Latur and Nanded Circles.
