A neonatal male baby born after five sisters was thrown away in a farm by mother considering it as a female child at Tunki in Aurangabad district, died while undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Monday morning.

On September 30, a mother threw a newborn baby in the farm considering it as a female baby. However, the nearby residents noticed it and found that it was a male baby. Hence, the mother claimed it as her baby. The condition of the baby was very serious and was admitted to the GMCH. He was administered artificial respiration and was put on a ventilator on Sunday. However, the baby did not respond to the treatment and breathed the last on Monday at around 5.20 am, the doctors said.

The body was sent to the post mortem department but the panchanama was not done till 5 pm. Hence, it was lying in the post mortem department until then.

Acting head of the pediatrics department, Dr Amol Suryawanshi said, the GMCH doctors and staff tried their best to provide the possible treatment to the baby. However, the baby''s weight was less and was infected, due to which the condition deteriorated, he said.
