Aurangabad, Feb 19:

To simplify the tax payment system, the Aurangabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has introduced the facility of paying water tax through POS (swipe) machines in each zone office.

According to the deputy commissioner (and Assessor and Collector of Tax), the HDFC Bank has handed over nine POS (Point of Sale) machines to the municipal commissioner A K Pandey on Thursday. There are nine zone offices in the jurisdiction of the AMC. Hence, one PoS machine was presented to each zonal (ward) officer.

The release underlined that the citizens could now pay their water tax conveniently by swapping debit card, credit card, UPI payment, Google Pay etc.

It is learnt that there are 1.20 lakh water connections (residential and commercial) in the city. The target collection of water tax during the financial year 2020-21 is Rs 60.94 crore. It includes Rs 49.14 crore from residential and Rs 11.80 crore from commercial connection-holders. Ironically, the current year water tax collection is less. Hence the civic officials are focus on recovering maximum water tax in this last leg of the financial year.

Five years ago, the AMC had introduced the facility of paying property tax online. It has evoked good response, and the service is enjoyed by citizens staying in different corners of the city, the state and the world.
