Aurangabad, March 5:

Okra grown from contract farming done by a group of farmers in Shendurwada (Gangapur) is being exported to Europe. Exports were started on Friday in the presence of officials from the agriculture department and agricultural technology management agency (ATMA), informed the district superintendent of agriculture Dr Tukaram Mote.

The farmers from Shendurwada, established the Samruddha Shetkari group in 2017 under ATMA. The farmers then went into an agreement for growing Okra with K B Export Phaltan. Two and a half tonnes of okra will be exported under the agreement. The initiative was inaugurated by deputy director Vaishali Kulkarni and sub-divisional agriculture officer Prakash Deshmukh. Farmers including Dnyaneshwar Targe, agriculture officer Ashok Binge, circle officer Shrikrishna Bandagar and others were present.
