Only 20 per cent vaccination target achieved in the district
Aurangabad, Jan 29:
As many as 9,800 health workers were called in the district till Thursday to administer corona vaccine. Out of them, 6662 were vaccinated. This proportion is 68 per cent. The total target of the district is to vaccinate 33,468 health workers and only 20 per cent vaccinations have been completed so far. The declining rate of vaccination in rural areas is also worrisome compared to urban areas.
Corona vaccination started on January 16 at 10 centres. Centres were increased after the first day. Vaccination centres were shifted to a large hospital. However, the number of vaccinations has not increased much. Meanwhile, the chief health officers took the vaccine. Although the number increased gradually it was not satisfactory. Hence the centres were increased from 4 to 8 to increase the response in rural areas. At present,, there are 9 centres in the city and at present vaccination is being carried out at 17 centres in the district. Vaccination in Aurangabad district is 70 to 80 per cent of the daily target. Therefore, the district is still not in the top ten in the state rankings. According to Thursday's vaccination, Aurangabad was ranked 22nd. Nagpur was ahead of Chandrapur, while Ratnagiri and Nandurbar lagged behind Aurangabad in terms of vaccination. The district vaccination officer Dr Vijaykumar Wagh said.
Women ahead in vaccination
As the number of female doctors, Asha and Anganwadi workers, health workers and nurses is higher among the health workers, it is likely that the percentage of women vaccinated is noticeable.
Supply of second phase doses
In the first phase of vaccination, 20,000 vaccines were given for vaccination in municipal limits and 14,000 vaccines were given in rural areas. The objective was to give the first phase doses to a total of 33,468 health workers in the district. Now 20,000 doses for the second phase of vaccination have been supplied to the city and 14,000 doses to the rural areas. Out of this, 13,000 beneficiaries in rural areas and 20,000 in urban areas will be vaccinated. Deputy director of health Dr Swapnil Lale said.
Liaison officers have been appointed at centres in rural areas where corona vaccination is taking place. The liaison officer is also counselling the beneficiaries through direct communication. Work is also underway to instil confidence in health workers to vaccinate their colleagues. Efforts to increase vaccination are ongoing and we will take further measures to increase vaccination after polio vaccination campaign said, Dr Sudhakar Shelke, district health officer.
