Aurangabad, June 8:

More than 31,000 youths who have qualified Maharashtra-Teacher Eligibility Test (MAHA-TET) will lose job opportunity as teachers in the State as the certificate of their validity will end in the current year.

It may be noted the Maharashtra State Council of Examinations (MSCE) holds MAHA-TET every year as eligible for teachers job in the schools. The maximum validity of the TET certificate is seven years. The recruitment process has been halted across the State for years.

More than 31,000 candidates who qualified eligibility test in 2013 will deprive of the teacher’s job as the validity of their certificate ends this year. The Central Government has increased the validity of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) certificate for a lifetime from seven years to enhance the employment opportunities for candidates seeking a career in the teaching field. Founder president of DTED, BEd Student Association Santosh Magar said thousands of students would lose job opportunity if the duration of validity is not increased in the State.

“The Government should issue a notification to increase the validity of MAHA-TET. The Central Government has given a relief to CTET candidates,” he said.

Sandeep Kamble, an aspiring teacher, said that he welcomes the Central Government's decision of extending the validity. “The validity of hundreds of TET holders is on the verge of expiry in the State. If the validity expires, they will have to pay a fee and attempt the test again,” he added.

Founder of Akhil Bhartiya Urdu Shikshak Sangh Sajid Nisar Ahmed said that 31,072 candidates qualified the TET in the State in 2013.“Even after qualifying for the test, the majority of them did not get a job yet. The validity of their certificate will end this year. We demand that the Government should issue a new certificate which has lifetime validity,” he added.
