Passenger safety lapses exposed in Minister’s surprise visit

Guardian Minister Sanjay Shirsat’s surprise visit to Cidco bus station on Thursday afternoon revealed shocking security lapses. The police outpost stood vacant, covered in dust, with no personnel on duty. Angered by the negligence, Shirsat immediately called the Police Commissioner, demanding immediate action and deployment of officers.

The visit came in response to a recent assault case at Pune’s Swargate bus station, raising concerns about passenger safety. Shirsat inspected the premises, assessed security arrangements, and engaged with commuters. Finding the police outpost deserted, he instructed authorities to tighten security at the station without delay.

Filth, broken facilities add to commuter woes

Beyond security issues, the minister found the bus station in a deplorable state. Garbage littered the premises, broken chairs lined the waiting areas, and the canteen was in poor condition. Shirsat directed depot manager Nilima Bagul to address these problems urgently.

"To prevent incidents like Swargate, I conducted this sudden inspection. I will also discuss these issues with Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik. Passenger safety is our priority, and steps will be taken to improve the station’s condition and security measures."

Statewide security audit planned

Authorities will conduct a security audit across all state bus stations and depots. Additionally, outdated buses will be decommissioned to improve overall safety and efficiency.

94 CCTV cameras installed, says transport official

The Central Bus Station has 94 CCTV cameras, while Cidco bus station has 54. Buses parked at the depot are locked, and security personnel are on duty, said Regional Transport Officer Santosh Ghane.
