Aurangabad, Jan 15:

Polling for 21 Gram Panchayats (GPs) in Waluj area was held peacefully on Friday. Voters who came to exercise their right to vote had to suffer due to confusion in the voter lists in most of the places, while an attempt to cast the vote in the name of the deceased in Pandharpur was thwarted by the presiding officer.

Mahavikas Aghadi and BJP have worked hard to take over the GPs of Ranjangaon, Jogeshwari, Waluj, Pandharpur, Ambelohal and Narayanpur. Voters had thronged the polling booths since Friday morning to exercise their voting right. Many people cast their votes in the morning as vehicles were arranged by the candidate to transport the voters. There was not much crowd at the polling station in the afternoon. However, voters had gathered at the polling station to exercise their rights in the evening. Voters were checked with an oximeter and a thermal gun at the polling station in the background of the corona.

Enthusiasm among senior and disabled voters

Senior citizens as well as disabled voters had come to the center to cast their votes with the help of family members. Police personnel at the polling booths also left the disabled and elderly voters in the polling booths without queuing. Senior voters were enthusiastic about exercising their voting right.

Voters upset over lists

Many voters did not get a polling chits, so they had to visit different polling stations to check their names. Many voters expressed their displeasure over the confusion in the voter lists and blamed it on the administration.

Attempt to cast vote in the name of deceased voter

An attempt to cast the vote in the name of the deceased in Pandharpur old ZP school was thwarted by the presiding officer Amol Vairag. Later, two women were caught using fake voting cards. ACPs Suresh Wankhede, Vivek Saraf, PI Madhukar Sawant visited the centre. However, the police could not take action against these bogus voters as Vairag did not lodge a complaint.
